Hot Hot Hot! How to pin yourself up when the sun is out!

Hi everybodyl

pin up cooling down-1

I am experiencing some seriously hot temperatures over here in Spain. Even though I know how it is since I have been here so often, It always strikes me! August is the hottest month and temperatures around 37 degrees celsius and up are very common. I was not designed for heat, burning very quickly, and I function a lot better around 22 degrees. So for me with my very Dutch skin and hair and the gentle summer temperatures of around 25 degrees I am normally used to, this asks for a bit of adaption. Would I normally wear my petticoats everyday, go through my normal makeup routine and do a hairstyle where most of my hair is curled or down, now with this heat I don’t feel like doing so much of my beauty routine. So how do you keep your pinup look going when it is this extremely warm?

Put your hair up.

With extreme heat you will not want to use any heat in your hair and  want to have your hair up to make sure you don’t sweat even more. When you leave your hair down in extreme heat, it works like a blanket on your head and back. No so nice I would say. With this weather I like to put my hair up in a rockabilly ponytail with a pomp, and decorate it with flowers or I like to do my favorite easy hairstyle using my Chiffon scarves since they breathe and don’t’ warm your head. I made a tutorial about this, check it out here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UplKLSUL_zw&feature=youtu.be

Wear light make-up.

When it is so hot outside, I like to have as little on my face as possible because soon I get the feeling of stickiness in my face and that makes me want wash everything off. What I like to do is wear a layer of factor 50 sunscreen for the face, powder it off with some compact powder and put on some waterproof mascara and some waterproof eyeliner to do my winged eyeliner. If you use non-waterproof eyeliner in this heat, when you start sweating a bit in no time you will have stains above your eyelid. I also like to keep wearing my red lipstick. Go for a long lasting one that doesn’t slide!

Wear a lot of light dresses.

Forget about your beautiful petticoat. You are going to have to be on a break for a bit. Although they are awesome, with this heat I don’t wear them. Next to creating the poof that goes with our swing dresses that we like so much, it will also serve as a great isolator, sticking to your legs and making you sweat. Just don’t.

I these circumstances I love to wear light thin and very comfortable dresses. Preferably cotton and without any lining so your dress won’t stick to your body.

Sunscreen!!

This might not be so pinup related but I cannot stress this enough. WEAR SUNSCREEN! It doesn’t matter what type of skin you have, wether you are made of milk like me or you have a beautiful dark skin, sunscreen is very important. . The immediate danger of too much sun is sunburn. If you looked at sunburned skin under a strong microscope, you would see that the cells and blood vessels have been damaged. However, the sun’s most serious threat is that it is the major cause of skin cancer, which is now the most common of all cancers. Doctors believe that most skin cancers can be avoided by preventing sun damage. Even the ladies that never burn, protection from sunburn is not the most important reason for wearing sunscreen. You want to reduce damage from the sun. Your skin can be harmed by constant sun exposure, whether or not you see a burn. Remember, sunburn is an immediate reaction, but damage from the sun occurs over a lifetime So get yourself some sunscreen and start smearing! The sun is also a big cause of premature skin aging, causing wrinkles and dark spots. Best is to use a moisturizer or foundation with a sunscreen already in it.

So there you have it, some tips to survive this heat with still looking like a pinup! Do you have some more tips? Please share!

Lots of love,

xoxo Miss Ginger Tulips
