Hearts and Roses Stardust dress

Hello lovelies!

Today I have a little gem of a dress for you! Hearts and Roses London has been kind enough to send me this dress and I can’t possible keep this from you!

The dress is a great winter staple. The dress originally comes without it, but I have paired it with a thrifted belt to give my waist that extra accent. Oh and have I mentioned it has POCKETS???

I really LOVE the print on this dress. The dark blue contrasts great with the colourful flowers and little polkadots around them. The fabric is nice and not too heavy. The skirt is perfectly full and looks great with it without a petticoat.

  • Dress: Hearts and Roses London
  • Belt: thrift store

Lots of love,

Belle of the ball – Voodoo Vixen

Hello lovelies,

Voodoo Vixen was kind enough to have me pick an item out of their brand new AW17 range to style and show you all over here.  Quickly I decided I wanted to be the Belle of the ball in their Belle fur collar dress

First of all, I love the diversity of this dress. It is great to have a dress in your closet you can upgrade or downgrade according to occasion. The Belle dress comes with detachable ever so soft fake fur collars that are easily removed to tone down your look if you would want to!

Another feature I absolutely adore is the perfect little bow with long ends at the waist.  Being tall and having a long torso, it falls perfectly at my natural waistline.

The Belle dress is now available on Voodoo Vixen’s website! Don’t miss out on this Beauty. Click to shop!

Lots of love,

Lola wears tartan – Voodoo Vixen AW17-18 Lola Dress

Hi lovelies,

You might remember Voodoo Vixen doing a collaboration with Rachel Jensen last year. Many people missed out on this amazing collection so Voodoo Vixen is bringing back the most lusted after piece, the Lola dress in their full size range up to 4XL and not only that, soon there will be a red colourway available!! We love you Voodoo Vixen!!

So I surely didn’t want to miss out this year and snatched one! So in that days last rays of Spanish sun I decided to shoot this amazing dress.

I am such a sucker for tartan, and especially green tartan, so to me this dress is what dreams are made of. The Lola dress comes with a detachable fake-fur collar and is just as gorgeous with or without. It has a typical 1940s cut which could mean you need to size up from your regular size or check the size chart very well!

This is not a typical swingdress, it has a tight fitting bodace and the skirt flares out slowly, meaning less space for your tummy. I wore a shaper under this dress to take away all the lumps and bumps.

Can we just talk about the skirt for a while?? I am 1.80m or 5.9″ and the skirt falls quite far OVER my knees! Hallelujah!! This dress fulfills all my long legged needs!

With or without the fake-fur collar, the bodice is absolutely stunning, being big boobed, the pleats formed no problem and provided with enough space for my tata’s.

Needless to say I am absolutely in love with this dress and I can’t wait for the weather here in Spain to cool down enough to be able to wear it!

So be quick and snatch yourself one of these beauties, I swear you won’t regret it!

Guestblog over at Deadly is the Female.

Hello lovelies,
I have always loved Deadly is the Female and since I haven’t been able to visit their physical store, I have bought in their online shop many a times. They carry an amazing range of high quality clothing such as Vixen by Micheline Pitt and Stop Staring!

So when I had the chance to be featured on their favourite bloggers/instagrammers blog I of course said yes! So here is the guest blog I wrote, enjoy!

Deadly is the Female interviews:

Miss Ginger Tulips

There are so many beautiful bloggers, models and gals who love the vintage style and we absolutely adore! We wanted to get together with a few to quiz them about anything and everything to do with clothing, makeup, hair, body confidence, selfie tips and so much more! In each interview we ask the lovely ladies 3 personalised questions to get an insight into each ladies lives and then we ask 5 Deadly questions which have been put together by our staff and customers that will be asked in each interview, how exciting!

This week we go international with our Deadly interview as we venture to Spain and chat with the beautiful, stylish and adorable Miss Ginger Tulips!

Miss Ginger Tulips we absolutely adore your outfit posts on Instagram, they are always so bright and fun! Can you tell us about yourself and how you came to dressing in a vintage/pinup style?

Thanks so much! I have always had a fascination for 1940’s and 50’s icons and before I started dressing full on pinup I always had a touch of vintage in my everyday style. About 4 years ago during a very difficult time in my life, very little made me happy besides dressing up and putting on that red lipstick and pretty dress so I decided to make that my reason to get up in the morning. So I made a radical change and it has brought me so much! Body confidence, happiness and it even made me meet my best friend!

We are all big fans of your blog that reviews vintage inspired clothing, accessories, makeup and so much more. Why did you start blogging? What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a blog?

I started blogging as a creative outlet. Writing was always a way for me to express myself. Blogging was something I wanted to do for a while but felt like I wouldn’t be interesting enough or have enough to say for people to read my posts. It was my boyfriend who gave me the courage and support to take the leap to do so. That would be the advice to someone who wants to start a blog. Just do it. If you feel like it, don’t let anyone hold you back!

You are based over in Sunny Spain, what can you tell us about the vintage scene in Spain? Are there many fellow pinups and vintage events? We’d love an excuse to visit Spain for a vintage event!

Unfortunately in the region of Alicante, where I live the scene is not too big. There is an amazing Lindy Hop dancing scene and dancing events are hosted which I regularly attend. There is definitely a bigger scene over in the two biggest cities, Barcelona and Madrid. I am dying to be able to visit High Rockabilly in Calafell, near Barcelona. Next year hopefully I will be able to attend!

The five Deadly Questions.

What is your most treasured piece in your wardrobe and why?

The most treasured piece in my wardrobe must be my 1953 red floral true vintage dress. It is quite difficult to find volup true vintage that fits like a glove and this dress looks like it was made for me. She only makes appearances on special days since she is quite delicate!

What is your top hair and makeup styling tip?

The best advice to give will sound super cliché but it is true! Practice makes perfect, and watch and learn! I used to be a disaster in doing hair and by trial and error I figured it out! I watched, and still do, a lot of Pin-up YouTubers and find inspiration in pictures. Over time you will find your favourite products to create your looks, and it will be easy as pie!

What is your top tip for taking a good selfie or photo?

Have fun!! Smile! Enjoy and don’t feel self conscious because you are taking a selfie. It is perfectly fine to enjoy taking a picture of yourself!

What 1 piece of advice would you give to girls who aspire to dress in the vintage style or aspire to be a model/blogger?

With regards to starting to dress in the vintage style, just start! I promise you won’t regret it! Remember that perfectionist a style comes with time and enjoy that time. To build your closet, start with good quality separates, good foundation wear, some dresses you have fallen in love with and start rocking it. For getting into modelling and building up a portfolio I would definitely recommend only working with people that are reliable and professional and not to choose just any kind of photographer. Do your research. There are many people out there that will offer their services to you but remember that they will have access and own all the footage that is made as well.

If you could have any item that is currently in stock from Deadly is the Female, what would it be and why?

Oh goodness, that is almost impossible to choose but I would have to say it would have to be something by Micheline Pitt! I am absolutely blown away by her collections and the amazing quality. If I would choose one item, I would go for the Vixen Swing Skirt in The Frisky Fetish print.

Thank you to the absolutely gorgeous and oh so kind Miss Ginger Tulips for taking part in our Deadly interview. Be sure to check out Miss Ginger Tulips blog and follow her on Instagram @missgingertulips.

Thank you so much Scarlett and Deadly is the Female for featuring me! It’s been an honour!
Lots of love, xoxox

Life’s too short for boring hair.

Hi lovelies!

f6b716aa65890b7d883c1434189a80f2--vintage-retro-funny-vintage

With time comes wisdom and great hair! Since the start of my vintage style journey about 4 years ago, (God, I’m getting old!!) I have made such progress in hairstyling. My hair used to be a hot experimental mess and I thought I totally had it down… Haha. Oh young Ginger, little did you know about the marvelous world of vintage hairstyling, thinking any hairspray would do, didn’t know about wetsets, proper brush outs, and the right cut and care for your hair!

Oh yes we see some progress here… So without sounding like I am a hair master (because I definitely am NOT) and you are little grasshoppers, I do want to share some advice with you that will make your start or process easier or maybe even be your finishing touches to what you already have discovered. So here are some tips and secrets of mine when it comes to creating vintage hairstyles.

  1. Get the right equipment.
As my dad used to say when he would DIY around the house; ‘Using good material is half of the work’. What is the first thing I would recommend? Good brushes. My daily instruments are a simple paddle brush, rat tail comb, a boar bristle smoothing brush and as an extra I have a boar bristle paddle brush.
These brushes don’t have to be expensive at all. You might want to invest a bit more in the boar bristle ones.
Whether you like to wetset or hot tong your hair, you will need pincurl clips in various sizes. Smaller ones for the flat pincurls, medium ones for your bangs and large ones (as large as you can get them) for the brushout. These are a must-have and are easy to find in any beauty supply store.
  2. Use the right products for your hair.
So this one is a little more tricky and requires some trial and error, finding out what you like and dislike and what works best for you. My recommendations are definitely the Suavecita Pomade and their Grooming Spray for sale at Vintage Hair NL, Lottabody setting lotion and a good strong ultra hold hairspray that works for you. I love Big Sexy Hair hairspray. This hairspray can easily be found on amazon.
  3. Take good care of your hair.
Your hair is going to take a lot of strain when you style it everyday, wether you heat style or not. Brushouts can get pretty rough and you will need your hair to be as strong as possible. You will experience lots of product buildup from all the styling products and especially hairspray. So in short, it’s important to take good care of your tresses. I avoid shampoos and conditioners that contain silicones. This will only weigh down your hair and will not rinse away the product buildup! I am a MASSIVE Lush Handmade Cosmetics fan. I used to work for them as a wee 16 y.o. Ginger and never lost my love for their products and the knowledge they gave me when it comes to haircare during the many trainings I have had. Some amazing shampoos to get rid of buildup are Rehab, Big, and basically all of their shampoo bars. Their hair masks are also divine, make sure to check them out. I LOVE Jasmin and Henna Fluff Ease for my ginger locks.
But another simple method of hydrating and reinforcing your hair to avoid breakage is using Coconut Oil. Get yourself a jar of this good stuff and soak your hair for a good while or even overnight to make your hair shiny and strong.
  4. Practice makes perfect!
Now that you know some of my tips and tricks, go out and try all those amazing hairstyles. Youtube is a great source!! I have a video out on how I do my brushout, check out the amazing Miss Victory Violet, PinupDollAshleyMarie, The Cherry Dollface and many many more! This is how I learned. Give yourself time and don’t expect amazing results the first time you try something new out. Have fun with it!

So good luck and make sure to let me know what you think of these tips and tricks, let me know in the comments what your essential tips and tricks are!

Lots of love, xoxox
